Kree! Writers of Teal'c Alphabet Soup!
First of all, thanks to every one of you for helping create such a marvelous tribute for a character that so many struggle to get right. We managed to get 26 individual authors for 26 distinct flavors, and it all combined to make scrumptious soup! There's just a little logistic clean-up that I need from you: ( ignore if you're not one of the authors ) Thanks again, people. You make me proud to be a fan of SG-1. |

"Pas de Deux" by melyanna (R)
Subject: "Pas de Deux" by melyanna (R) Rec Category: John/Elizabeth Why This Must Be Read: This fic is an AU of "The Real World" where Elizabeth and John are both infected by the nanites and trapped in the virtual hell of the hospital, etc. It's a complex story that requires patience and careful reading to follow the twists and turns it takes and I honestly don't know any other writer in the entire fandom who could have pulled this story off but ( snippet ) |

Back safe
I'm back safely in Nashville. I have a great deal to write about--my trip north, the Northern Region War Camp, all my friends, Grim's elevation, the snafus getting to Nashville from Bradley International. But really, I must pack boxes and change my address. For the record, Jim packed about 2 or 3 boxes while I was gone. Anyway, I'm back safely, and now heading straight into panic mode.

Tomorrow: SG-1 Gen Fic Day!
Gen Fic Day is tomorrow! We'll celebrate Daniel Jackson's 43rd birthday with lots of fic and gen squee! The official post goes up Tuesday morning (my time). Comment there with drabbles, links to new fic, recs for old fic, meta, squee - anything, as long as it's gen and SG-1. If you're contributing via Teal'c Alphabet Soup, please remember not to post your Teal'c fic anywhere online until tomorrow! You can either paste it directly into the comments or, if it's too long, comment with the first few paras and link to the rest on your own LJ. (Not off LJ, please!) Remember: 100 word minimum (no maximum - my own, pre-beta, is 1,900 words), a defining aspect or facet of Teal'c, canonical, and gen. I am sooooooo excited! Gen fic! Teal'c fic! Wheeeeeeee! :) |

Bowling by SailorNeo
Rec Category: Daniel Jackson/Vala Mal Doran Pairing: Daniel Jackson/Vala Mal Doran, Samantha Carter/Cameron Mitchell friendship (maybe) Category: het, team, fluff, humor Warning: het, bowling, spoilers for Memento Mori Author on LJ: Author's Website: gate_ship.livejournal.com Link: Bowling Why This Must Be Read: This is just a nice night at a bowling alley with the team. What makes this even better though is the little flirtations between Vala and Daniel. Disco type bowling. Shakira blasting. Vala dancing. Needless to say, Daniel is a little distracted. I've always loved the image of the ending. That's pretty much it, go read it!

Dinner at Eight by siggy (PG-13)
Rec Category: Jack O'Neill/Samantha Carter Pairing: Jack O'Neill/Samantha Carter Why This Must Be Read: The beautifully visceral imagery and the deftly interwoven then-and-now stories ought to be reason enough, but that's actually just the starting point here. This short story gives us a compelling look at the consequences of decisions made in the heat of the moment, at the power people who care have to hurt each other just when they need each other the most, and at the journey to forgive those wrongs. Jack's and Sam's emotions are vivid and poignant and real, and if this piece isn't an easy, carefree read, it's still absolutely worth it. ( Snippet ) |

Rules of Engagement by Velocitygrass (NC-17)
Rec Category: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay Pairing: John Sheppard/Rodney McKay Category: Romance, Harlequin, John/Rodney, Slash, AU, futurefic Spoilers: up to Outcast Author on LJ: Author's Website: SGA 2008 Fan Fiction Link: Rules of Engagement Why This Must Be Read: Velocitygrass has a knack for writing a good romance story, building up intimacy over the course of the story, feathering it with classic tropes--in this case, a marriage of convenience. Atlantis is gone, and Sheppard is going slowly insane at the SGC when Rodney proposes that they get married--temporarily, mind!--only to have their sham relationship turn real. Along the way, all the right buttons are hit, making the story a perfect one to cuddle up with and read. ( excerpt ) |

Fidelity by Lionchilde
Rec Category: Daniel Jackson/Vala Mal Doran Pairing: Daniel Jackson/Vala Mal Doran Category: AU, het Warning: PG-13, implied violence, established relationship Author on LJ: Author's Website: unknown Link: Fidelity Why This Must Be Read: This is part of Lionchilde's Fire and Water series, which is AU. You absolutely don't have to read the entire series to understand this story. Ever since getting into the Stargate fandom and the Daniel/Vala ship, I've loved this little story. A tiny snippet is all we need to understand Daniel's protective nature and Vala's vulnerability. With just 500 words, Lionchilde conveys the events of an entire day. For some reason the image of Daniel having skinned knuckles on his wedding day just strikes me as brilliantly in character in the context of the story. This story also shows the family nature SG-1 and General Landry have. Brilliant imagery and a great take on what Daniel and Vala's wedding day would be.

The Holes In the Ground by fahye (PG)
Rec Category: Gen Pairing: None Link: "The Holes In the Ground" Why this must be read: This fic, is to me, the definitive Rodney McKay; encapsulating all of his brilliance, his peculiar foibles, his pursuit of knowledge and most of all, his delight at being able to live out his long-held dreams of exploring the universe. Crossing over with the Dr Whoniverse, and featuring several incarnations of the Doctor; this fic plays with all of those wonderful notions of space and time and the paradox of time travel, well mixed with the impossibilities of science fiction. I adore the continuing thread that features recognizable quotes from Heinlen and Asimov, Rodney's mental number games of prime and not prime, and all the science references that will thrill any geeky heart to the core. You don't need to be familiar with Dr Who canon, but if you are, you will love the way that This is a wonderful fic. Not to be missed. ( A teeny extract ) |

Five days until SG-1 Gen Fic Day!
Five more days until July 8, when we celebrate Daniel Jackson's birthday with Gen Fic Day! I'll create a post early Tuesday morning, and you'll all have the entire day to post fics, WIPs, meta, recs - anything, as long as it's gen and about SG-1! Of course, we'll be cheating just a little: we've got 26 guaranteed ficlets, as July 8 is also the day that Teal'c Alphabet Soup is ready to be served. Those of you (all 26 of you, whee!) who are writing Teal'c Alphabet Soup are more than welcome to contribute to Gen Fic Day in other ways, of course! :) Don't forget the simple rules for Alphabet Soup: your ficlet must be at least 100 words, it should fit with canon, it should be about some defining aspect of Teal'c, and it has to be gen. Comment here with questions if you've got any. And in the meantime, go ahead and write! Wheeeee! :) |

A Sweet Treat by dannysgirlsg1
Rec Category: Daniel Jackson/Vala Mal Doran Pairing: Daniel Jackson/Vala Mal Doran Category: het, fluff, romance Warning: het, PG Author on LJ: Author's Website: none Link: A Sweet Treat Why This Must Be Read: This fic was written as a birthday present for me this year and it's really stuck with me. It demonstrates how even though Daniel believes in Vala, she still has some insecurities. Daniel wants to show her that he does care but Vala isn't quite sure. A great little piece of fluff with a sigh worthy ending. Not to say anything spoilery but the last two paragraphs are one of my favorite pieces of imagery in all the fic that I've read.

Girls (and Jaffa) Do Not Fight Fair, by Kalquessa (G)
Hurray for teamy goodness! I'm delighted to rec this category again. :) Rec Category: Team Why This Must Be Read: Oh, this fic is fun! General Jack O'Neill meets SG-1 returning from a crisis off-world. Turns out the local baddie forced them into the fighting arena, but Sam - and Teal'c - manage to pwn everyone in sight, so it's only a matter of prying a distracted Daniel out of badly-fitted chainmail and calling Doctor Lee to tell him that SG-1 have already saved themselves, thank you very much. Poor Jack, all nostalgic for being shot at... Great teamy goodness that will make you laugh out loud. And wise Walter and a Siler shout-out for bonus squee! |
